Have you ever heard the legend of Kuda?

Kude, hardworking young man from Golubić, at the end of the 18th century stared at the beautiful maiden Milija from the village Žegar and fell in love with her. It’s nothing unusual. That was happy love, but at that time, as you know, there were no roads as today. Krupa river at the foot of southern Velebit, except she divide them with her steep coasts, where no problems with managing had only goats, neither upstream nor downstream, had no bridge or any other transition. Kude to his loved one had to go…over the river. Milija has in fact been from Ervenik, and the two villages divides this river. There was no problem for Kuda to run over Krupa, would someone give up on love because of river? Of course not!

However, the day when Kude decided to propose to his sweetheart was approaching, but wedding could not go over the river. So there was created a bridge, two months stacking stones only way that Kuda knows and Krupa was no longer a problem for Kuda to propose to his love! And they lived long and happily ever after, and the bridge has remained until the present day intact!

Krupa is a tributary river Zrmanja, one of the most beautiful Croatian rivers. It’s a real gem and provides experience of clear mountain river that penetrates through deep cuts in rocks up to 300 meters deep canyon. The water is clean, clear, and drinkable through entire course. It is an incredible contrast of the surrounding rocks and with greenery framed clear rivers. View – fantasy… River Zrmanja is struggling and winding through rocky cliffs making a wonderful waterfall, green oasis of meadows and woods surround the quiet, green, clear water. The entire course river is constantly changing its face. One moment is tight, quiet, almost forming a lake, and another second meandering narrow canyon, hums the waterfalls, tumbling down the travertine, noisy, wild, playful on the rapids, and then again calms down its foam, becomes timid, quiet, calm, deep and slow, gentle. With river changes its landscape. The trail meanders, rounding, coming down, climbs and orders new images.

Peace, quiet, tranquility, birds chirping, crickets. In the river water compete the surrounding cliffs and lush bushy crowns. This green oasis circulated notes of some strange, wild melodies. Came music of life. Unreal and a bit creepy…

Behind the cliff, estuary of Krnjeza in Krupa after which begin to form travertine barriers, which end with the expanding in front of the bridge. This ”bridge” however, should not be taken literally, although it is a true masterpiece of bridge construction in miniature. Kuda’s bridge consists of twelve arches which are built of travertine blocks, and the arches themselves are connected with stone pillars. The whole area around the bridge is so picturesque that it is difficult to describe it in words.

Only, you want to stay there forever, stretch out along the river among the grass and flowers, forget all the worries, free the soul, become part of this magnificent nature. Well, this is it beautiful river Krupa! Blue, green, emerald…with many small and large waterfalls, cascades, rapids… Real little miracles hidden deep in the Velebit canyon.
